We can get lots of nutrients from food, particularly fruits and vegetables. But the truth is that we do not.

Insufficient intake of fruits and vegetables can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients that may increase our risk for developing heart disease, stroke, cancer, or other diseases. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that adults consume 1.5-2 cups of fruits and 2-3 cups of veggies daily. A recent CDC study found that 76% of adults aren’t eating enough fruits and 87% don’t eat sufficient vegetables.

How do you get your nutrients? A multivitamin. Multivitamins are like an insurance policy, providing a guarantee that your body receives the vitamins and minerals it requires. It can compensate for any nutritional deficiencies that may occur when food is not available.

Some Reasons to Take a Multivitamin

  1. Healthy Aging: As we age, our nutritional requirements increase. It becomes more difficult for the body to absorb nutrients. Medications can also deplete the body’s ability to absorb nutrients. These deficiencies may be corrected with a multivitamin.
  2. A good thing for your heart: Studies have shown that high-quality multivitamins may help reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Heart disease is the leading cause for death in America. Vitamins B1,B2, B6, K1, Niacin, CoQ10, and magnesium all play a part in heart health.
  3. Lowers cancer risk: Vitamin intake has been linked to a lower risk of certain cancers. One recent study of 14,000 older men found that multivitamin supplementation daily “significantly decreased the risk of total cancer.”
  4. Increases immunity: Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant known to strengthen the immune system, and strengthening it. Vitamins D, E and K boost immunity as well. These vitamins may also reduce allergic symptoms.
  5. Eye health: Vitamins A, C and E, Niacin, and selenium are all help support your eye health. Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and other help protect the eyes against harmful light waves. Multivitamins that contain lutein, zeaxanthin and a combo of vitamins, and zeaxanthin may reduce the likelihood of macular degeneration.
  6. Water-soluble vitamins Excess fat-soluble vitamins (A-D, E, and K) are stored in your body. The body does not store water-soluble vitamins B and C. The body will eliminate excess water-soluble vitamins. It is therefore important to take these vital vitamins on a daily basis.
  7. Healthy skin and hair: For fuller hair and skin, look for Vitamins Niacin and Biotin. Vitamins A, C and E are essential for healthy skin. As well as CoQ10.
  8. Feel better: Thanks to the Vitamin B family, multivitamins are associated with an increase in energy, feeling of well-being, and a decrease in anxiety. It is worth sticking to a multivitamin regimen for this reason alone.
