I’ve made a big decision to my long term training this week. If you follow my instagram stories you will have probably noticed I’ve been spending more and more time at Crossfit than at my normal gym. So, while I’ve been a dedicated gym goer for years, on Thursday I cancelled my gym membership so that I could concentrate more time on Crossfit. I’m not going to write about it too much now, as I plan to write a longer post about why I’ve made this decision and what it will mean to my long term training, which I aim to get posted this week.
Apart from switching from a traditional gym to Crossfit, the major thing that impacted my training this week was the fact that all my running trainers have fallen to pieces! My normal running trainers fell apart during the Trowse 10k I ran last Sunday, so this week I dug out an old pair of running trainers that I hoped would last me for the next few weeks and get me through my next half marathon. Today, as I was lacing up these old trainers to head out for a long Sunday morning run, I realised that they had a hole in them and were pretty much falling apart at the seams.
I gave up on going for a run, and instead spent the time searching online for some new ones. I did manage to find some that suit my running gait and they have now been ordered. I’m hoping they will be delivered in the next few days. I’m actually getting really anxious about my running at the moment, as I haven’t done a long run for weeks and I’ve only one more Sunday left for a long run before I have to start cutting down the miles in preparation for the race. I’m hoping that I will be able to fit in more shorter runs during the week to get my fitness back in a short space of time.
Another area that I feel I’ve not been too good about last week is my diet – chocolate, cake and wine has featured in it a bit too heavily! But I’m feeling really motivated and positive at the moment to get back to eating as healthily as possible. Nutrition is an area I constantly feel that I need to improve on and is something I really want to focus on next year.
I’ve been thinking a lot about 2018 over the last 7 days. I’m already starting to look ahead to what I want to achieve in 2018 (which is one of the reasons why I think I made the decision to quit the gym this week). One of my main goals next year is to run another marathon and today I signed up to run the Barcelona marathon, which takes place in March, to achieve this.
I’m really excited to run the Barcelona marathon. I’ve never been to Barcelona before so I’m looking forward to exploring the city, plus I’ve also heard so many positive things about the race. I’m hoping I’ll break the 3:45 time as well with this marathon!
